Roundtable - Making America Great Again: How International Democratic Allies are Reacting to Washington's New Agenda

Panel Code
RC51.13
Language
English

What does the Trump administration's agenda mean for Washington's major democratic partners both in the "global south" and in Europe and Japan? How are they interpreting the drastic rhetorical shifts, and the more uncertain and erratic policy innovations, generated as a result of the 2016 US elections? Beyond the initial confusion as prior assumptions are undermined, how are they likely to react in the longer run, and how far can they co-operate to "contain" the emerging risks? This geographically diverse and broad-based panel of experts will look "from the outside in"; and will explore how the global political economy is likely to be impacted by "America firstism".
