Judicial Politics and Appointment Processes of High Courts

Dr. James Kelly
Panel Code

This panel considers the political role of Supreme or High Courts in fundamental policy debates such as school desegregation (Brown v. Board of Education) and the judicialization of abortion politics in Latin America. In addition, it considers the potential emergence of ‘strong-form’ judicial review in Ireland via deferred declarations of accountability, the issue salience in the High Court of Australia, and corruption in the Brazilian federal judicial system.
